活化是在有氧化劑的作用下，對碳化后的材料加熱，以生產(chǎn)活性炭產(chǎn)品。當(dāng)氧化過程的溫度在800-900℃時(shí)，一般用蒸汽或二氧化碳為氧化劑;當(dāng)氧化溫度在600℃以下時(shí)，一般用空氣做氧化劑。對于活化過程所起的作用，目前只有大致的理解。在活化過程中，燒掉了碳化時(shí)吸附的碳?xì)浠衔?，把原有空隙邊上的碳?xì)湓訜簦鹆藬U(kuò)大孔隙的作用，并把孔隙與孔隙之間燒穿。活化使活性炭變成一種良好的多孔結(jié)構(gòu)，碳化及活化后的晶體片狀結(jié)。
